Description
The Toyota 7M-GE is a 2,954 cc (3.0-liter) naturally aspirated inline-6 gasoline engine from Toyota’s M-series engine family. It is a DOHC, 24-valve engine and was produced primarily during the 1980s and early 1990s. It is particularly known for its use in the Toyota Supra, Toyota Soarer and Toyota Cressida.
Output varied somewhat according to year and market.
A commonly cited specification is:
- Maximum power: approximately 190 hp (142 kW) @ 6,000 rpm
- Maximum torque: approximately 250 Nm @ 4,800 rpm
- Compression ratio: 9.2:1
Later versions were rated around 200 hp, depending on market and emissions configuration. Toyota’s technical information for the Supra lists the 7M-GE at approximately 200 PS in certain specifications.
What does “7M-GE” mean?
Toyota engine codes contain information about the engine family and design:
- 7 = seventh major version within the M engine family
- M = Toyota M-series engine family
- G = performance-oriented DOHC cylinder head
- E = electronic fuel injection
So 7M-GE essentially identifies a DOHC, electronically fuel-injected M-series engine.

The Toyota 7M-GE is a 3.0-liter, 2,954 cc naturally aspirated straight-six petrol engine with DOHC and 24 valves. It has an 83 × 91 mm bore/stroke, approximately 9.2:1 compression, electronic fuel injection, a cast-iron block and aluminum cylinder head, and produces roughly 190–200 hp and 250 Nm, depending on the specification. It is most famously associated with the Toyota Supra MA70/A70, as well as certain Cressida and Soarer models.
