Description
The Toyota 4ZZ-FE is a 1.398-liter (1.4L) naturally aspirated 4-cylinder petrol engine from Toyota’s ZZ engine family. It was developed primarily for compact Toyota models and is known for its DOHC 16-valve design, VVT-i variable valve timing, electronic fuel injection and timing chain.
The precise output depends on the vehicle, market and production year. A common European specification is:
- Maximum power: approximately 71 kW / 97 hp @ 6,000 rpm
- Maximum torque: approximately 130 Nm @ 4,400 rpm
- Redline: approximately 6,500 rpm
- Compression ratio: around 10.0:1
Some applications have slightly different power and torque ratings because of ECU calibration and emissions requirements.
VVT-i stands for Variable Valve Timing-intelligent.
The 4ZZ-FE is part of Toyota’s ZZ engine family, which also includes engines such as the 1ZZ-FE and 3ZZ-FE.
Dimensions and weight vary according to accessories and configuration, but a bare/long-block 4ZZ-FE is substantially lighter than Toyota’s older cast-iron engines.
