Description
The Toyota GD-6 2.8L 1GD-FTV is a modern 2.8-liter turbocharged common-rail diesel engine from Toyota’s GD engine family. It is a 4-cylinder, 16-valve DOHC direct-injection diesel designed primarily for Toyota’s Hilux, Fortuner, Land Cruiser Prado, Land Cruiser 70-series and other commercial/utility vehicles.
Toyota introduced the 1GD-FTV in 2015 as a newer-generation diesel engine, replacing larger-displacement diesel engines in some applications. Toyota highlighted its high thermal efficiency, strong low-speed torque and improved fuel economy.
GD-6 is Toyota’s marketing/model designation commonly associated with its 2.8L GD-series diesel Hilux and related vehicles.

The Toyota GD-6 2.8L 1GD-FTV is a 2,755 cc, 4-cylinder turbocharged common-rail diesel engine with DOHC, 16 valves, a variable-nozzle turbocharger, intercooler and 15.6:1 compression ratio. Depending on generation and market, it produces approximately 177–204 hp and 420–500 Nm. The latest Hilux versions can produce 150 kW and up to 500 Nm, making it particularly well suited to heavy-duty pickup, towing and off-road applications.
