Description
The Toyota GD-6 2.4L 2GD-FTV is a 2,393 cc turbocharged diesel engine from Toyota’s GD engine family. It is a 4-cylinder, 16-valve DOHC, common-rail direct-injection diesel with a variable-nozzle turbocharger (VNT/VGT) and intercooler. It is widely used in the Toyota Hilux 2.4 GD-6, as well as other Toyota utility vehicles in different markets.
The 2GD-FTV uses a variable-nozzle turbocharger (VNT) and intercooler. The variable turbo geometry allows the engine to generate strong boost and torque at relatively low engine speeds while maintaining good airflow at higher speeds. Toyota’s specifications explicitly describe the 2GD-FTV as a 16-valve DOHC engine with a variable-nozzle turbocharger and intercooler.
This is one reason the 2.4L engine is well suited to:
- Pickup trucks
- Towing
- Heavy loads
- Off-road driving
- Commercial use
- Long-distance driving
