Description
The Toyota 1VD-FTV is a 4.5-liter V8 common-rail turbo-diesel engine developed by Toyota primarily for heavy-duty 4WD applications. The single-turbo version is most notably used in the Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Series. It shares the 4,461 cc V8 architecture with the twin-turbo version but uses a single turbocharger and has different power, torque, ECU and ancillary specifications depending on market and model year.
The 1VD-FTV belongs to Toyota’s VD-series diesel engines and is a large-displacement V8 designed for demanding applications.
It was introduced for the Land Cruiser in the late 2000s and became particularly important in the Land Cruiser 70 Series.
Unlike the Land Cruiser 200 4.5L twin-turbo version, the 70 Series version uses a single variable-nozzle turbocharger in the relevant applications.

The Toyota Land Cruiser 4.5L V8 1VD-FTV Single-Turbo Diesel is a 4,461 cc, 32-valve DOHC V8 diesel engine featuring common-rail direct injection, one variable-geometry turbocharger and an intercooler. It was designed particularly for the Land Cruiser 70 Series, where its combination of strong low-speed torque, robust construction and relatively simple single-turbo configuration makes it suitable for heavy-duty work, towing and demanding off-road conditions.
